Berlin is the third solo studio album by American musician Lou Reed, released in July 1973 by RCA Records.
The album serves as a poignant rock opera depicting the tragic tale of Jim and Caroline, a doomed couple. The concept originated when producer Bob Ezrin remarked to Lou Reed that while Reed's songs often had compelling beginnings, they lacked conclusive endings.
This conversation sparked the idea of exploring the fate of the couple from Reed's earlier song Berlin, featured on his debut solo album.
